water damaged furnaces| chicago ridge, cicero, westchester

Saturday, April 28th, 2012

does anyone remember the huge rainstorms we had this past warm seasons? for many people those storms are now a distant memory, but for far too many property owners, there is still recovery in progress. the problem is that hundreds of homes suffered severe flooding, and in the process the heating, ventalation, and air conditioning systems were damaged. replacing these units can become costly, and for many families, the heater still needs to be swapped out. with cold seasons quickly approaching, there isn’t much time left to get your family ready before the temperatures start to drop. at the very least, the heater must be inspected before you turn it on, and if you neglect to do so, your house could suffer a much more devastating disaster than a little water in the basement.

WHY VARIABLE SPEED FURNACES?

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

First, my own bias on the topic.  In my mind Lennox variable speed furnaces are truly the best value around, but getting away from the brand considerations, what are the benifits of a variable furnace anyway and why bring it up when it’s not 30 degrees below zero out?

the benefits of radiant floor heating

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

when you think about having cold feet, you probably picture someone who is apprehensive about getting married, but ever notice how cold your feet get in the cold seasons? walking around in the snow all day and on the cold floors in your house, it seems like your feet will never get warm. the problem is that the heat for your house probably runs off an old forced air heater system. the air blowing out of the vents heats the air in the rooms of your house, but the floors still remain chilled. however, if you had a radiant floor heating system, cold floors would be unheard-of in your house!

why invest in a 2-stage heater? this is one of the most frequently asked questions to an heating, ventalation, and air conditioning expert, which is not surprising given the many misconceptions that are out there. the main advantage to the two stage heater is the improved house comfort that is achieved through the reduced inside temperature fluctuations that the 2-stage heater delivers, not increased efficiency (a 90% heater is 90% efficient, regardless of how many stages it runs in).

choosing a heater filter| evanston, darien, new lenox

Sunday, April 15th, 2012

your furnace’s air filter is your home’s first, and sometimes only, line of defense against airborne contaminants that threaten the air quality in your house. as cold seasons approaches, we will be spending more time indoors and now is the time to start thinking about inside air quality. if you are like most homes, you probably use cheap fiberglass disposable air filters in your heater. you may think that you are being responsible about your heater care, but even if you change this type of filter monthly, you could still be allowing thousands of harmful contaminants to roam freely in your breathing air. if you haven’t thought about your furnace’s filter in months or maybe even years, poor air quality is probably not your only problem.

when your heater needs repairs, it can be difficult to choose a craftsperson to take care of the work. every buisness makes claims that they are the best, but how do you know who to trust? there are a few questions that every person should ask their potential heating, ventalation, and air conditioning buisness before scheduling a rebuild.

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

misconceptions are a standard part of everyday life. we hear someone rattle off a supposed “fact,” and without finding out for ourselves, we take their “fact” as truth. in some cases it doesn’t really have any effect on us, but the misconceptions that are held about thermostats could be costing you hundreds extra every year in wasted power. luckily, we are going to dispel these misconceptions just in time for the cold seasons season.

when do i change my filter? | midlothian, lisle, justice

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

one of the most frequently asked questions in the heating, ventalation, and air conditioning industry is, “how often should i change my heater filter?” unfortunately, there isn’t one straightforward answer that we can give you because there are several factors that play a role in the condition of the filter. obviously, the first step would be to review the packaging on the filter itself. usually it will have a recommended length of time after which replacement will be needed. however, here at four seasons, we don’t want you to suffer the consequences that come from having a dirty filter, so we counsel that you review the filter monthly. if it is dirty, replace it. if not, wait another month and review again. but, some families should be reviewing their filters more frequently. these are people who have:

When It’s Time For Your Air Ventilation System Inspection

Wednesday, April 4th, 2012

When it comes to knowing when it’s time to have your air ventilation system inspected and cleaned, many people may not be able to recognize the signs of a dirty system.

If you have no memory of the last time your system was cleaned, it’s probably been too long. A good rule of thumb is to have your home or office air ducts inspected and cleaned every two years. If you or someone else in your family has allergies, this period should be shortened to once a year or more often.  If you feel that air problems in your home may be contributing to health problems for you or your family. Over 60 million people in North America suffer from some form of allergy, with children and the elderly being most affected by respiratory problems. (more…)
