WHY VARIABLE SPEED FURNACES?

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

First, my own bias on the topic.  In my mind Lennox variable speed furnaces are truly the best value around, but getting away from the brand considerations, what are the benifits of a variable furnace anyway and why bring it up when it’s not 30 degrees below zero out?

the benefits of radiant floor heating

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

when you think about having cold feet, you probably picture someone who is apprehensive about getting married, but ever notice how cold your feet get in the cold seasons? walking around in the snow all day and on the cold floors in your house, it seems like your feet will never get warm. the problem is that the heat for your house probably runs off an old forced air heater system. the air blowing out of the vents heats the air in the rooms of your house, but the floors still remain chilled. however, if you had a radiant floor heating system, cold floors would be unheard-of in your house!

duct cleaning: don’t do it yourself

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

there are thousands of “do it yourself” websites out there that encourage property owners to do everything from panting the walls to fixing the car without expert help. when you have the knowledge to execute these projects correctly, you can save yourself quite a bit of money, but there are still some projects that should always be performed by professionals. clearing the air ducts on your own in order to save a few bucks is always a bad decision. there are many negative consequences that come from attempting to do so, and the work should be left in the hands of someone who has the correct training and equipment.

4 problems caused by “do-it-yourself” channel cleanings

  1. channel application is still dirty: the majority of the channel application system in your house is probably hidden behind walls and under floors. any parts of the system that you can reach are going to offer limited access, and therefore will only allow you understood the first four to six feet of channel application. that leaves several feet of channel application in the same filthy condition. once you see how dirty the first four to six feet are, you will want to understood the rest.
  2. possible damage: some channel application materials can only be cleaned with tools that are specifically designed for that type of channel application. the hose on your vacuum and whatever other clearing equipment you may have in the house may cause damage to the system, and this damage could lead to cracks and gaps in the system that allow air to escape.
  3. mould released into the air: most of the garbage that is in your channel application is stuck to the sides, and when agitated by clearing equipment it will detach. some particles will escape into the air of the house if you are not using the correct collection equipment. if there is any chance that your channel application is infested with mould, you could have a major problem on your hand if you attempt to understood it up on your own. disturbing mould spores will spread them all over your house. instead of just having a mould problem in the ducts, you now have a mould problem in the kitchen, the bedrooms, the basement, and every other room of the house.
  4. dust and other particles released into the air: even if you do not have a mould problem, disturbing dust, dander, and other particles without having a way of collecting them safely will release them into the air in the house. this will greatly increase the concentration of any other harmful particles that may have been in the ducts. if you have family members or if you yourself suffer from asthma or other respiratory problems, this could have very negative effects upon your health.

go with the pros!

Saturday, April 21st, 2012

the heating system always seems to break down at the worst time during the cold seasons season, and suddenly you are faced with the dilemma of finding someone to rebuild the unit for you. many of us have to choose between the friend that can fix almost anything and the expert heating, ventalation, and air conditioning technicians like those at four seasons. what it usually comes down to is cost. you may automatically assume that your friend is your best bet at saving a few bucks, but here at four seasons, we would like you to consider some of the benefits that come from using professionals before you make your decision.

  • saving money: for starters, many people assume that hiring a friend or relative is cheaper, and it may be initially. however, if something goes wrong or if the person doesn’t really know what they are doing, you may be forced to call in the professionals anyways. at that point, you are paying double. you also need to consider that this is a very valuable system, and if the person you are hiring makes a big mistake, you may now be faced with the cost of replacing the unit all together. four seasons will get the work done right the first time.
  • craftsperson experience: four seasons heating and air conditioning holds each of our technicians to the highest possible standards of quality in the heating, ventalation, and air conditioning industry. each and every one of our servicemen have become nate certified, and we are constantly updating and reevaluating their abilities during the time that they application for our buisness. besides training, each of our technicians have years of experience rebuilding hundreds of heating systems. compare that level of training and experience to that of your “handyman” friend, and we are sure that you will want to trust your unit in the hands of a four seasons craftsperson.
  • warranty coverage: four seasons guarantees all of the application that we perform and we back it up with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. each rebuild that we perform comes with at least a 90 day warranty if not longer, so that you can enjoy the peace of mind that come from knowing we will return for free if there is even the slightest problem with the services performed. chances are your friend won’t be able to make any of these promises, and if you have a manufacturer’s warranty on the unit, it may be voided by having a non-professional application on the system.
  • safety precautions: furnaces and boilers are dangerous units that can be the source of gas cracks and carbon monoxide in your house. when you have someone working on the unit that is not a expert, they likely do not have the equipment or the know-how to prevent or detect either of these problems. a four seasons craftsperson will perform all checks necessary, including a heat exchanger inspection, to ensure that your house and your family are safe from the devastating effects of gas cracks and carbon monoxide exposure.

the decision is your own but if you decide to go with the pros, remember four seasons. with 24 hour services and fast response times, we are always ready and waiting for your call.

prevent loft isolating scams in your house!

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

property owners have long been weary when looking for a craftsperson to perform any services in their house, and unfortunately, there is more bad news. loft isolating services now join channel cleanings and house repairs as a source of fraud in this industry. adding loft isolating to a house that has old or poor amounts of isolating can save the property owner big bucks on their power bills and take a load off of the heater and cooling system. with these benefits, it makes sense that thousands of people have this service performed every year. but, if you are considering using this service in your house, you must be on the lookout for the fraudulent schemes that illegitimate loft isolating buisnesses have come up with to maximize profit and minimize services.
